At The Speed Of Trust (2024)

"At the speed of trust" - Vince Wall

At The Speed Of Trust (1)

AI literacy, a dynamic and multifaceted domain, is experiencing a period of rapid (sometimes manic) evolution, marked by intriguing complexities. The global landscape of Linkedin is abuzz with activity, as each entity embarks on its unique journey to equip its workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the AI-powered world. These diverse and, at times, unconventional approaches to AI education are a testament to the creativity and adaptability that define our era.

As an enthusiastic observer and participant in AI literacy discourse, I am continually drawn to the myriad perspectives and methodologies that emerge from this vibrant field. Each contribution to the conversation, whether a blog post, research paper, or casual discussion, holds a nugget of wisdom, a fragment of insight that contributes to the broader mosaic of understanding.

In the realm of AI literacy, questions abound, and the answers are not always straightforward. Do educators require extensive training to become AI literate, or is hands-on experience through successful projects the key? Should all teachers receive high-level AI instruction, or should the responsibility for AI integration fall primarily on technology leaders? Will the disparity in resources between public and private schools exacerbate the digital divide, leaving public institutions lagging in AI adoption?

These are just a few of the questions that spark lively debate and fuel ongoing research. Exploring these questions and others like them is essential for ensuring that AI literacy initiatives are effective, equitable, and aligned with the needs of learners and educators alike. By engaging in thoughtful dialogue and embracing diverse perspectives, we can unlock the full potential of AI literacy and pave the way for a future where everyone can harness the power of AI for personal and professional growth.

TeachAI, with the dynamic leadership of Pat Yongpradit and the rest of the team, is a prime example of how to foster collaboration among brilliant minds to drive global AI adoption. Their energy and enthusiasm are truly inspiring.

I recently posted a poll about 'how many hours' teachers need to be AI Literate?

I was struck by Vince's response:

"It has to be a shared experience."

I love this.

So of course, I went to the actual post, I am just copying it below:

The End of Semester Break is a time to take a breath, to reflect, and to express gratitude.

Thanks to all who have contributed to such a successful 6 months of integrating hashtag#GenerativeAI tools into our teaching and learning practices at All Hallows' School. I'm thrilled to share the incredible progress we've made. This semester has been marked by collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to ethical and effective AI use, all made possible by the dedication and hard work of amazing staff.

Here's some of the semester's highlights:

✨ We revised and updated our school guidelines to ensure the ethical and effective use of hashtag#AI, aligning them with emerging best practices and our AHS Teaching for Learning Framework.

✨ We ensured that all of our school's approaches to hashtag#AI were centred on learning and were appropriately focused on wellbeing of students.

✨ We conducted whole teaching staff professional development to lay a solid foundation for our shared AI journey that lies ahead.

✨ We delivered four different opt-in introductory modules on Generative AI, attended by approximately 50 staff members from across all teaching teams and sections of the school community.

✨ We created and delivered five departmental trainings bespoke to the needs of our Inclusive Learning, Library/Information Services, Social Sciences, English, Technology, and the Year 5-6 teaching teams.

✨ We established active and asynchronous staff sharing spaces via Microsoft Education hashtag#Teams and our Moodle LMS , fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

✨ We held two consultations with Student Reference Groups, including Year 12 Leaders and the Year 5-11 Student Council, ensuring that student voice guides and is integral to our AI approaches.

✨ We engaged with two school governance / partnership-related events, (with plans well underway for a parent, carers, and community event next month).

✨ We launched four trial pilot initiatives, including an 8ENG story creation unit, Playlab AI bot building and use trials, Microsoft Copilot hashtag#Studio trials, and an Microsoft hashtag#PromptBuddy trial, exploring the potential of AI in various educational contexts.

✨ We developed a comprehensive LMS resource base, providing tools, resources, reviewed prompt libraries, experimental AHS-created bots, key readings, professional learning materials, access to short courses, and ethics/safety resources.Throughout this journey, we've been committed to creating cultures of transparency and integrity. I am immensely grateful for the support and the collective efforts and contributions of the entire leadership and teaching staff of All Hallows' School. The courage, dedication, curiosity, and willingness of all in engaging with hashtag#GenAI is inspiring.

I see so many things to focus on here, and I hope to meet with Vince Wall to find out more!

Stefan Bauschard is working on some incredible things with Dr. Sabba Quidwai in their approach to AI Literacy, and their Humanity Amplified Paper (I will read it soon! I promise)

This report is for educational leaders and policymakers who want to understand the evolving AI World and help our students prepare to thrive in it.This report looks at the growing gap between the attention paid to the development of intelligence in machines and humans. It argues for placing a greater priority on the development of human intelligence, as well as the need for humans to develop skills necessary to collaborate with machines in a way that both amplifies their own intelligence and celebrates their humanity.

Stefan's Blog and LinkedIn feed is a go-to for me:
