NSEJS 2023-24 Exam Dates, Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Preparation (2024)

Stage 1- Annually, around 80000 people from the country appear for the examination, of which they need to qualify for the merit list and around 300 students are selected among them according to the merit clause. And the last rank, if tied, then all students with the same marks at this position are qualified to appear for the second level examination or stage 2.

Stage 2 - The test's second stage is more difficult, and to advance to it, qualified applicants must meet the MAS, or minimum acceptable score, cutoff of 50% of the maximum score (Minimum Admissible Score). The top 35 competitors in the 300-member Indian National Junior Science Olympiad (INJSO) attend a two-week programme. Afterward, a team of six individuals is chosen to represent India at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).

Eligibility of NSEJS

The students eligible for this examination are the high school students who are in the 10th grade or below and are not scheduled to complete their 10th board examination earlier than November 2023-24. They can appear through their school or even separately.

The students affirm and confirm their NSEJS eligibility, and at any point if discovered to have engaged in any unethical behaviour that demonstrates their guilt of being underage or out of grade, they are instantly dismissed from the exam. Even if you passed the first level of the exam, you will still be disqualified.

This exam takes place in November of every year for the NSEJS 2023-24 exam students born on and between January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2008. The most important thing to keep in mind here is that only Indian citizens are eligible to appear for the National Standard Examination In Junior Science.

The candidate must not be taking any other exams during the same academic year as NSEJS, including NSEA (National Standard Examination in Astronomy), NSEB (National Standard Examination in Biology), NSEC (National Standard Examination in Chemistry), and NSEP (National Standard Examination in Physics).

Importance of National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

The students are selected state wise in India based on the state quota and the top 1 percent in each subject in every state are awarded a merit certificate, and the top 10 per cent from each examination centre are also awarded a certificate. The national toppers who are in the 1 percent in each subject are awarded a prize and a special merit certificate.

Apart from certificates, the other important factor is that you get exposure. It is a preparation stage for later if you intend to appear for the NSEA examination. If you have joined an institute for college or coaching, you will receive a 75 per cent scholarship.

Exam Pattern of NSEJS

The Question paper is of a total of 80 multiple choice questions that has one correct alternative option. The markings credited are 3 for the right answer and a negative marking of 1 mark if the answer is incorrect. The subjects hold equal importance as 20 questions from each subject are Physics, Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry. The total marks for the NSEJS are 240.

Eligibility Criteria of NSEJS 2023-2024

  • Students in 10th grade or lower, and who have not passed their 10th class board exam before November 2023 are eligible for this NSEJS exam.

  • Students have to make sure their education level is acceptable and make sure to not commit any unethical behaviour.

  • In such cases, even if the student passes the first level of the examination, your application will be disregarded.

  • Candidate’s birthdate should be between the given range: Date of birth between 1 January 2007 or 31 December 2008.

  • The NSEJS examination is only available for Indian students.

  • NSEA (National Standard Examination in Astronomy), NSEP (National Standard Examination in Physics), NSEB (National Standard Examination in Biology), or NSEC applications should not be made during the year that a student is applying for NSEJS (National Standard Examination In Chemistry).

NSEJS Registration Steps

Step-1: Aspirants must locate a NSE centre in their residence area, you can find a list of NSE centres online. or you can also visit the official website of NSEJS and fill out the application form.

Step-2: At the NSE centre, you can inform the coordinator for applying for the NSEJS 2023 exam and they will help you with the NSEJS 2023 registration process. You will be required to fill out an application form and submit it before the deadline.

Step-3: Pay the nominal fees required via the login centre.
